What we do

We deliver our mission through four key areas of work:

1.Advocacy and activism

We campaign for inclusive, evidence-based education policy and guidance that protects students and supports educators.

Our work includes:

  • Signing and leading petitions and joint statements

  • Responding to government consultations

  • Working in partnership with unions and sector organisations

  • Being part of national campaigns such as the Supportive Schools Campaign

All our advocacy is grounded in global, intersectional and ethical justice.

2. Free webinars and conferences

We provide regular, accessible professional development for educators worldwide:

  • Over 150 free webinars delivered since 2020

  • Eight national and international conferences held online, in person and hybrid

  • Sessions led by experts offering practical classroom tools and strategies

  • More than 5,000 educators supported through our events

3.Free resources

We maintain a growing library of free, downloadable resources on our website, including:

  • Recordings of previous webinars

  • Resources organised by educational role and LGBTIQA+ identity

  • Guidance for embedding inclusion across subjects and key stages

All resources are designed to be practical, evidence-based and classroom-ready.

4.Sector engagement

We actively engage with the wider education community by:

  • Exhibiting at trade union and education events

  • Attending conferences

  • Building networks of educators, allies and partners across the UK and internationally

Our vision

Who we are

Pride in Education is a volunteer-led organisation founded in March 2020 by Laïla El-Métoui in response to cuts in UK Government funding for anti-homophobia, biphobia and transphobia (HBT) bullying work in schools.

We are a small but dedicated team committed to advancing LGBTIQA+ justice across the education sector. Over the past five years, we have grown from a UK-based virtual conference into an international platform supporting thousands of educators worldwide to create welcoming, inclusive and affirming learning environments.

Our work is rooted in collective global, intersectional and ethical justice and liberation. None of us are free until we are all free.

Our vision

We envision an education system where every learner and educator is safe, valued and represented, where LGBTIQA+ lives, histories and contributions are embedded across all areas of learning and where inclusion is not an exception, but the norm.

When schools create fully inclusive environments, everyone benefits: learners achieve better outcomes and progress further, whilst staff experience greater wellbeing and professional fulfilment.

We believe education should be a place where people feel they belong and feel represented. We believe that education should empower young people to understand themselves and each other through honest, evidence-based and inclusive teaching.

Our mission

Pride in Education exists to advance intersectional LGBTIQA+ inclusion in education by advocating for the education sector equipping educators with practical tools, resources and learning opportunities that support inclusive practice, challenge exclusion and promote safe, affirming learning environments for all.

Through advocacy, engagement and professional development, we work to embed LGBTIQA+ experiences across the curriculum and across education systems, ensuring that all LGBTIQA+ voices are centred and celebrated.
